Green Cat Renewables Canada Corporation use TrueViewVisuals for Visualisations in Alberta
Green Cat Renewables Canada Corporation (GCRC) provide specialist development support and consultancy services for renewable energy projects across Western Canada.
The Canadian venture, which was established in Feb 2017, will draw on Green Cat’s significant experience of the renewables market in the UK, spanning 12 years, and 700MW+ of renewable energy projects.
Green Cat identified the renewables sector in Western Canada as an area with potential for significant growth. In Alberta, the government has committed to an additional 5GW of renewables by 2030. Being in Canada gives Green Cat the opportunity to share our experiences and lessons learned from the Scottish market, where they saw a similar level of renewable generation capacity added in the last decade.
Use of 3D Visualisations
Having worked with TrueViewVisuals for a number of years in the UK market and being familiar with the product and the added value it brings to project development, the GCRC were keen to utilise the tool for wind and solar farm visualisation for projects in Alberta. The tool is being used for a range of applications from landowner lease negotiation, public engagement, Open House events, and preparation of visualisations for Municipalities and to aid developers in layout design.
TVV worked in partnership with GCRC to adapt the familiar UK application for the local market. For Alberta this meant integrating with the local topographic data, sourcing, processing and tiling some hundreds of thousands of data points into a contiguous DTM. This was then overlaid with OpenData for Fly Through 3D mapping in addition to adding local coordinate system support to app and web interfaces.
Due to the scale of projects under development, additional optimisations to data exchange have allowed for massive projects to be assessed, improving the core experience for all TrueViewVisuals customers with the latest release.
“We are delighted to continue our relationship with TrueViewVisuals as we explore new markets for renewables.”
Stephanie Ewing, Vice President, Green Cat Renewables Canada Corporation
The Benefits
For the first time in Canada, the public can readily see how developments will sit in the landscape and what the view of the project is likely to be. GCRC have found this is especially useful for solar where there is little/ no solar development in the province to date and it can often be difficult to gauge the scale and size of the project.
“It is very exciting to be working with Green Cat in Canada, and to be able to help them take our innovative technologies to new markets.”
